That regular ‘go to’ habit that gives you a momentary high or temporary relief from your life. The addiction becomes an issue when it results in avoidance.
We all have an addiction of some sort. Even toddlers use their binky to self soothe until coping skills are learned. As we mature, our addictions can become self-sabotaging if we ignore the root cause, which is the need for relief from the challenges of our life.
Binge eating, overuse of alcohol, serial dating, to name a few, are ways we divert our attention to the point where we neglect to discover the root cause for needing the escape. It can alter our body chemistry and lower our energetic vibration which can lead to other negative issues playing out in our lives. An addiction can feel great now, but leave us feeling unfulfilled afterward with a sense that we are not in control of our own lives. It’s a cyclical and temporary soothing not intended for long term peace and well being.
